Western Avenue toward Koreatown
Around the vicinity of Melrose Avenue, Western Avenue is filled with
furniture stores. Many of them are Korean-owned and cater to Korean immigrants, who often come here to buy
furniture for their new suburban mansions.
I am looking south in the direction of Koreatown. A few blocks to the south, I can see the sign for Oriental Mission Church, one of dozens of Korean evangelical megachurches that dot the Los Angeles landscape. Further down are the skyscrapers at Wilshire Boulevard - including the Mercury highrise condominium (formerly a Union Bank building, and rumored to be owned by a former military dictator of South Korea) and the green Wiltern Theatre.
